Some Fresco Music is Coming to Nashville This Weekend!
17 Mar
Happy Saint Patty’s Day Music City! It’s time to kick back, relax, drink some green beer and listen to some music.
Today I have been soaking in the eclectically enjoyable sounds of Rey Fresco, a uniquely fresh band from Ventura, California.
I’m currently listening to Rey Fresco’s debut “The People” which is a great mix of rock, reggae and traditional Veracruz music. Now I cannot wait to see them live when they visit Music City this Sunday, hot off the heals of their performance at the South By Southwest Festival.
The centerpiece of this band is a 36-string Veracruz harp. Their backbeat is a drum kit built from surfboard fiberglass. If that’s not enough for a truly unique sound, Rey Fresco’s lead singer, Roger Keiaho, hails from the Fijian Islands. Their drummer is a former surfboard builder (hence the fiberglass drums!), and then there’s Xocoyotzin Moraza (you can call him Xoco or “sho-ko”), the resident harpist, guitarist, and requinto jarocho (that’s a small guitar in simple english) player.
So, how does this all sound when they come together as a band? It sounds pretty freakin’ cool to me! Check out this amazing video for their song “All in Awe” that they shot in one, yes one, take!
We are very proud that Rey Fresco is joining us at 3rd & Lindsley this Sunday, March 21 at 8 PM, opening for our Music City Unsigned show featuring Steve Moakler, Ben Rector and Andrew Ripp. So, Sunday night, join The Ramblers for what promises to be a very eclectic night of music, that will start off by soaking in the California surf and Veracruz sounds with a visit from Rey Fresco!
Cheers,
Johnny T
(or in honor of today, you can just call me Seanny McT!)
